The sun shines on our town. The sports centre is bright. Red, blue, and yellow holds cover it.
Max runs in, eager and bouncy. He wears his red number 7. A red helmet waits by him.
Jo walks in, calm and smiling. Her green track suit is clean. Her silver whistle hangs on red cord.
The wall looks very tall today. Max wears a harness and helmet. Jo clips the rope to his harness.
Max looks up and feels afraid. The wall is so high. His hands shake. His breath is fast.
Jo sees him. She blows her whistle. She says, Reach up slowly. One hold at a time. I hold your rope tight.
Max reaches up. He grips a red hold. He grips a blue hold. He breathes slow and steady.
He does not look down. He keeps reaching. He grips a yellow hold. Jo says, Slow and strong. I am here.
Max climbs higher and higher. His legs shake again. He stops. He breathes in. He breathes out. Then he starts again, slow.
The top is close now. Max reaches. His fingers touch the very top. He waves to Jo far below.
Max feels brave. He feels proud. He is not perfect today. Jo smiles and holds the rope. Her silver whistle shines.
They unclip the rope and harness. Jo says, You try it. You try, you learn. Max climbs again, a little better.
