The sun shines on the town. The sports centre looks bright and friendly. Max visits the blue pool today.
Max wears his red number 7 jersey. He has navy shorts and white trainers. Blue goggles sit up on his forehead.
He puts on red swim trunks. He pulls his blue goggles down. He looks at the water.
Max steps in. The water feels cold. He is scared and clumsy. He drops under with a big splash.
Jo stands by the pool. She wears her green tracksuit. She blows her silver whistle. She hands Max a yellow kickboard.
Jo shows him how to hold it. His hands go on top. His arms stay straight. He kicks his legs and breathes.
Max practices with the kickboard. He kicks fast and strong. Water splashes up and out. Drops shine on his happy face.
Jo smiles and nods. Her silver whistle hangs and shines. She says good job, Max. Keep going, keep kicking.
Max moves slow and steady. He floats and kicks across. The blue pool looks long. He keeps going to the wall now.
Max reaches the far wall. He takes a big breath. He swims one whole width. His arms and legs work together.
It is not perfect yet. He splashes left and right. His goggles slip a little. He bumps the wall and laughs.
Max pops up, grinning and proud. Jo smiles, and her whistle shines. Max says I can swim now.
