Max stands on the outdoor court. He wears a red number 7 shirt. Blue goggles rest on his forehead.
Max holds an orange ball. He looks at the tall hoop. Max throws the ball hard. He misses the net again.
Max throws again. He misses. The ball rolls across the court. Max feels sad but brave.
Jo walks onto the court. Her silver whistle hangs and shines. Jo smiles. She is calm and kind.
Jo blows her whistle. Max listens. She shows how to bounce. Use two hands. Bend your knees. Look at the net.
Max is bouncing the ball. Bounce, catch, bounce, catch. The ball comes up to his hands. He smiles and keeps going.
Max bounces and walks down the court. He turns and walks back up. Jo claps and cheers for Max.
Jo shows how to aim and shoot. Eyes on the net. Bend, push up, and let go. Use gentle hands.
Max bends his knees and shoots. The ball hits the hoop edge. It bounces out. Jo says, Keep going, Max.
Max is trying again. He aims at the net. His eyes are calm and strong. The ball flies in a line.
The ball drops through the hoop. It swishes. Max jumps and cheers. Both arms go up high.
Jo smiles. Good work, Max, she says. You are better today. Not perfect yet, but better. Max feels proud and ready.
