A bell rings on Maple Street. Mr. Aldo runs from the bakery. The big bakery clock runs backwards today.
People look up and get confused. Trains are late, and school is late. Mr. Aldo's bread burns. Yesterday it was fine.
The Patrol hurries to the bakery. They see the huge round clock face. They climb a little ladder to look.

Kiki shines her flashlight inside. Waffles curls up on a lump. He naps on a walnut. Kiki spots another walnut stuck between two cogs.
A tiny face peeks from the roof. A squirrel watches them, cheeky and calm. It hides winter snacks in the clock.
Zoe holds the hands steady. Marco points to the wedged nut. Kiki frees the walnut gently. The clock ticks forward again, strong and clear.
The street cheers as the bell rings right. Mr. Aldo smiles with floury hands. He gives them warm rolls. Waffles sniffs a butter roll.
They ask neighbors what they saw. People laugh because the clock tricks them. Marco writes notes in the blue casebook. Kiki adds simple reasons.
Back in the shed, they sit together. Zoe stamps the blue casebook. They say, 'Case closed!' They share rolls with Waffles.
Today the clock is right again. Yesterday it was backwards. The Patrol smiles. Their tiny detective club can solve kind puzzles.
