Today the Puzzle Patrol meets. They sit in the shed. Their blue casebook is open. Waffles sleeps by the door.
A folded note slides under the door. Waffles rolls and naps on it. Zoe lifts Waffles very gently. She picks up the note.
Marco opens the note carefully. Strange symbols cover the page. There is a sun and an arrow. There are three trees and a star.
Who is it from? What does it mean? Kiki shines her flashlight and thinks. Marco starts a new page.
Zoe smiles and taps the arrow. She says, It is a map. The arrow points down Maple Street. We can follow it today.
They study the three trees. Three round trees mean the little park. The star must be the old bench. It has a painted star.
The Patrol marches down Maple Street. Marco sketches the clues while walking. Kiki carries her bright flashlight. Waffles waddles after them, still sleepy.
They pass three round trees in the park. A friendly jogger waves and smiles. Marco draws the three trees. Zoe checks the arrow again.
Here is the old bench with a star. The star is painted yellow. Kiki kneels to look under. Waffles hops up and stretches.
Waffles flops down, napping on it. His tail brushes a red string. The string pulls a hidden box. Zoe gasps. The clue was under Waffles.
Inside are cookies and a small note. Kiki reads the note aloud. Thank you for finding my cat last week. From Mr. Bell.
Back in the shed, they write notes. Marco stamps the blue casebook. They say, Case closed! Then they share the sweet cookies.
Mystery solved, and the reason is kind. Mr. Bell was thankful and sweet. Waffles eats a tiny crumb. The Patrol laughs and plans tomorrow.
